Fare thee well

We had a little going-away party for Nancy, David and Ella the weekend before they moved to Ithaca (they're on the road as I post). We wish you all the best and hope you will keep in touch.

My 18-week bump compared to Jessica's 38-week bump. (Has baby Penelope arrived?)

I couldn't resist including this one of Gable sneaking a brownie—
Exhibit A: junior squirrel in natural habitat.

Take care, you will be truly missed.

Jessica's Blessing Way

It was a beautiful and emotional celebration of Jess's soon-to-be motherhood. Jennifer did a wonderful job hosting. I'm so glad I could participate and be a witness to such touching friendships and sharing of sentiments to what it means to be a mother.

Congratulations, Jess! We wish you all the best and can't wait to meet Penelope.

Altered Book Pages

After Debbie's tutorial, I thought I'd give this whole blog thing a shot. Here are some pages I recently created for a friend's altered book project. Her instructions were to "do whatever you want" to the book pages. There was no theme. I tried to think of things that had personal meaning to her.

The first page is a reference to the fact that she used to call my cat "Kitty Owl" (his name was Elmo, but he had big eyes like an owl). It also references the poem "The Owl and the Pussycat," which I read at her wedding. It's a sweet, romantic poem, but it includes the verse, "Oh, beautiful Pussy! Oh Pussy, my love! What a wonderful Pussy you are." Yes, I actually said the word "pussy" multiple times in front of over 100 wedding guests! Only a true Vagina Squirrel could pull that off.

The photos on the second page are buildings at the University of Oregon, where my friend and I met.

The last page has no inside story. It just kind of created itself.
