Altered Book Pages

After Debbie's tutorial, I thought I'd give this whole blog thing a shot. Here are some pages I recently created for a friend's altered book project. Her instructions were to "do whatever you want" to the book pages. There was no theme. I tried to think of things that had personal meaning to her.
The first page is a reference to the fact that she used to call my cat "Kitty Owl" (his name was Elmo, but he had big eyes like an owl). It also references the poem "The Owl and the Pussycat," which I read at her wedding. It's a sweet, romantic poem, but it includes the verse, "Oh, beautiful Pussy! Oh Pussy, my love! What a wonderful Pussy you are." Yes, I actually said the word "pussy" multiple times in front of over 100 wedding guests! Only a true Vagina Squirrel could pull that off.
The photos on the second page are buildings at the University of Oregon, where my friend and I met.
The last page has no inside story. It just kind of created itself.

not a painting, but a photo and a knit
Computer un-savvy as I am, I decided to do a test-run at posting something. This is from a series of photos of Ella that I am thinking of contributing to a knitting website. There's a photography contest in which you send in a photo of one of your finished pieces from their pattern collection, and the most compelling photo wins a bunch of knitting loot. This isn''t the one I'm contributing because I was afraid that posting it here might constitute publishing it (?) which would disqualify it, but I really wanted to try posting a photo of something I've made lately. So here is Ella at the LA zoo (3 days pre-fire), pausing from brushing all the goats and sheep at the petting zoo, and just petting here. I like the idea of a yarn source in with the wool top…

junior squirrels
I'll start things off by posting photos of our favorite junior squirrels. (Rae- I'm sorry, I don't have any photos of Brynn saved.)

If you'd like to make your very own swag with the official squirrel logo—courtesy of Brent, Jessica B's hubby (thanks!)—you can now download it.

xoxo to everyone and happy blogging!
